ἀοιδ-ή [α^], Att. contr. ᾠδή (q. v.), ἡ, : (ἀείδω):—

A. song, whether:

1. art of song, “αὐτὰρ ἀοιδὴν θεσπεσίηνἀφέλοντο” Il.2.599; “ὡς ἄρα τοι . . θεὸς ὤπασεθέσπιν ἀ.” Od.8.498.

2. act of singing, song, “οἱ δ᾽ εἰς ἱμερόεσσαν ἀ.τρεψάμενοι” 18.304; “ὑπ᾽ ὀρχηθμῷ καὶ ἀοιδῇ”Hes.Sc.282.
